The Law on Taxes on the Use, Holding and Carrying of Goods (Article 5, paragraph 1, item 6) exempts from use tax “owners of motor vehicles whose drive is exclusively electric, or one of whose drives is electric (hybrid vehicles)”. It is the only registration item that really falls away for an electric car — and, for more powerful cars, the largest one.

Cities calculate the municipal fee for cars by engine displacement. In Belgrade from 01.01.2026 (Official Gazette of the City of Belgrade 100/2025): up to 1.150 cm³ 830 RSD, 1.150–1.300 cm³ 1.670 RSD, 1.300–1.600 cm³ 2.520 RSD, 1.600–2.000 cm³ 3.370 RSD, 2.000–3.000 cm³ 5.080 RSD, over 3.000 cm³ 8.410 RSD. The decision has no special provisions for electric cars, and a car with no engine displacement is not classified in the table — online calculators usually apply the lowest band. Serbia has no green number plates or other markings for electric vehicles. In February 2026 the Association of Vehicle and Parts Importers (SAUVD) proposed green plates, parking and road benefits, access to yellow bus lanes and a category B licence for electric delivery vehicles up to 4,25 t (BizSrbija, 12.02.2026) — that is a proposal, not a regulation. The only existing benefit on the road is a 10 % discount on motorway tolls with electronic toll collection — see tolls and parking.
From 2026, electric bicycles faster than 25 km/h and electric scooters with a seat must get a sticker from the Road Traffic Safety Agency (power, design speed, seven-digit number) and pass a technical inspection; for vehicles bought or imported by 27.06.2026, the application to have their characteristics determined must be submitted by 01.02.2027, and registration completed by 01.03.2027 (Biznis.rs, 28.08.2026). This does not apply to electric cars.
