Roadside assistance for an electric car

An electric car is not towed on its wheels. When you call for help, say straight away that the car is electric and needs a flatbed.

Translated from Serbian. Where the exact wording matters, the Serbian original applies.

  • AMSS roadside assistance: 1987, from Europe +381 11 3331 200
  • On the E-70, E-75, E-80 and E-763 roads AMSS tows free of charge to the first safe exit
  • An electric car is carried on a flatbed, with all four tyres off the ground
  • Car under warranty: first call the brand's roadside assistance number
  • Injuries, smoke or fire: 194 ambulance, 193 fire brigade, 192 police

Who to call

  1. Injuries, smoke or fire: 194 (ambulance), 193 (fire and rescue), 192 (police).
  2. Car under warranty or with a mobility programme: the brand's roadside assistance, numbers in the table below.
  3. Roadside assistance policy with an insurer: the number on the policy.
  4. None of these: AMSS on 1987. AMSS also helps drivers who are not members, at its own prices.

On the E-70, E-75, E-80 and E-763 roads AMSS, on behalf of JP “Putevi Srbije”, tows a vehicle free of charge from the place of a breakdown or accident. The tow goes to the first safe exit (AMSS website, 25.10.2026). From there on, you, the brand or the insurer pays.

Details: AMSS membership
  • Yearly packages: Basic 1.500 RSD (one tow up to 40 km and one roadside repair up to 40 km), Super 3.300, Premium Srbija 4.800 and Premium Evropa 8.000 RSD (AMSS website, 25.10.2026).
  • The benefits apply only when AMSS organises the help: first call 1987 or report the breakdown in the AMSS app.
  • For vehicles whose total mass with load exceeds 2,5 t, membership does not cover towing. Many electric cars with passengers and luggage are close to that limit: check the mass in the registration certificate.
  • AMSS does not say anything specific about electric cars or flatbed transport: when you call, say that the car is electric.

Roadside assistance by brand

The number applies when the car is under warranty or has the brand's roadside assistance programme. Call it before ordering a tow yourself: the brand pays only for help it organises.

Geely, Leapmotor, Changan and Deepal, Dongfeng, JMEV, BAIC, Foton, Maxus, Kia, Dacia and Volvo do not publish a roadside assistance number on their Serbian websites (checked 25.10.2026): ask the seller or look in the warranty booklet. MG has a roadside assistance programme, but Serbia is not in its table of numbers by country. Lexus and Mazda describe roadside assistance without a phone number. Tesla does not have Serbia on the list of countries for its roadside assistance.

Details: flat battery and what is included
  • Opel: when the battery of an electric model is completely flat — emergency charging for up to 30 minutes or a tow to a public charger within 50 km, at most 3 times a year; the owner pays for charging at the public charger.
  • Fiat: an electric model is recharged and/or towed home, to work or to the nearest charger, within 80 km.
  • BYD: under its roadside assistance terms, a discharged high-voltage battery is not a breakdown. After a breakdown or accident, the tow goes to the nearest authorised BYD service, with no limit on the number of tows.
  • Hyundai: tow to the nearest authorised Hyundai service; you must call on the day of the breakdown, with the chassis number.
  • Toyota: do nothing without Toyota Eurocare's approval.
  • Tesla: Serbia is not on the list of countries for its roadside assistance; even where it is, Tesla helps with a flat battery but does not pay for that service.
  • Other brands do not say on their pages what applies to a flat battery in an electric car.

Towing on a flatbed only

In an electric car the motor generates electricity while the wheels turn. That is why Tesla requires the Model 3 always to be carried with all four tyres off the ground: otherwise there can be serious damage and overheating, and in rare cases fire. Damage from improper transport is not covered by the warranty.

  • A flatbed truck is best.
  • Without a flatbed: the front wheels are lifted and towing dollies go under the rear ones, for at most 55 km (Tesla Model 3).
  • Tesla has a tow mode (Controls > Service > Towing) only for loading onto a flatbed: below 8 km/h and for less than 10 metres.
  • The rules differ by brand: see your model's manual, the chapter on transport or towing.

Tow services that say on their website they carry vehicles on a flatbed: service map, Tow filter.

What to tell the operator

  • That the car is electric and a flatbed is needed
  • The exact location: street and number, or the motorway section and direction
  • Make, model and registration number; for the brand's assistance also the chassis number
  • What happened: breakdown, accident or flat battery

Flat battery

Only Opel and Fiat describe on their websites the help when an electric model's battery runs flat, and BYD explicitly excludes it. With other brands, ask when you call who pays for the tow to a charger. Before a long trip, the “Chargers on the way” button on the charger map shows the chargers along the way.

Where the data comes from

Numbers and terms are from the websites of importers, brands and AMSS, with the date checked. The tow services on the map are those that say on their website they carry vehicles on a flatbed; no ratings or recommendations are published. Send a number that has changed or is missing through the corrections page.
