An electric car without a garage
Without a parking space of your own, the options are public chargers and a garage with electricity, and a garage pays off through charging only at high mileage.
Translated from Serbian. Where the exact wording matters, the Serbian original applies.

- For 1.000 km a month a car uses about 160 kWh: 650–1.100 RSD in a garage at night, 6.900–12.600 RSD at public fast chargers
- A garage at 100 € a month pays for itself through charging alone only from about 1.000–2.000 km a month
- Listings do offer garages with electricity; garages with a charger already installed are rare
- In someone else's garage you need the owner's written consent and a separate MID-certified meter
What it costs per month
| Where you charge | Per kWh | For 1.000 km |
|---|---|---|
| Garage or home, at night | 4–7 RSD | 650–1.100 RSD |
| Public fast charger | 43–79 RSD | 6.900–12.600 RSD |
| Public slow charger, per-minute charging | about 91 RSD | about 14.600 RSD |
| Free charger | 0 RSD | 0 RSD |
The calculation assumes 16 kWh per 100 km. Slow public chargers charge by the minute, so a kilowatt-hour costs more the slower the car takes power: how to pay less. Free chargers are few, and they depend on opening hours and the rules of the location: free chargers.
Details: where the prices come from
- Garage or home: the EPS low (night) tariff in the green and blue zones, with fees, excise duty and VAT. During the day a kilowatt-hour costs several times more.
- Fast charger: receipts from the Charge&GO app, August–September 2026.
- Slow charger: Charge&GO AC, 16,67 RSD per minute, when the car takes 11 kW. A car that takes 7,4 kW pays about 135 RSD per kWh.
When a garage pays off
A garage replaces public chargers. Over 1.000 km you save about 5.900 RSD compared with fast chargers at 43 RSD/kWh, and about 11.700 RSD at 79 RSD/kWh.
So a garage at 100 € (11.720 RSD) pays for itself through charging alone only from about 2.000 km a month. Against the more expensive fast chargers it pays off from about 1.000 km. If you rent a garage for parking anyway, charging there is almost pure saving.

How to find a garage with electricity
Garages are rented out through listings. KupujemProdajem has an “Electricity” (Struja) filter. At the end of September 2026, 127 of 514 rental listings in Serbia had it, and only 3 mentioned a charger. There are listings on 4zida and Halo oglasi too.
Before signing, ask the owner:
- whose meter the garage's electricity is on: the owner's or the building's shared meter;
- how strong the connection is and whether the socket has its own circuit breaker;
- whether charging and a dedicated circuit with a meter are allowed;
- how electricity is paid: by the meter at the price on the bill, or with the rent.
Details: public garages and parking with a charger
- Belgrade: the public garage Obilićev venac has 805 spaces, 6 of them with a charger. Individuals can pay a monthly or quarterly subscription. Whether the subscription includes charging: not mentioned.
- Novi Sad: at a car park with a charger, parking costs 500 RSD per 60 minutes, since 13 July 2026.
Electricity in someone else's garage
All residents pay for the building's shared electricity, so charging from it needs an assembly decision and a separate meter. In a garage on the owner's meter, the owner's written consent and a separate MID-certified meter on the charger's circuit are enough.
Electricity is reimbursed by the meter at the price on the owner's bill, with no mark-up, or it is included in the rent. A consent template is in the guide A charger in a rented garage.
Details: an ordinary socket and “selling” electricity
- A charging cable from an ordinary socket gives about 2,3 kW: in 8 hours that is about 18 kWh, enough for about 110 km. Regular overnight charging needs at least a socket on its own circuit breaker, and better a dedicated circuit: safety and test certificate.
- The garage owner does not sell electricity; the cost is reimbursed. Under the Energy Law (Article 210v), charging as a separate service is provided by companies and sole traders.
FAQ
Can you charge from the shared electricity in a building's garage?
Only with an assembly decision and a separate meter, because all residents pay for the shared electricity. Without a meter, the neighbours pay for your charging.
How many kilometres do you get in one night?
From an ordinary 2,3 kW socket, about 110 km in 8 hours. A 3,7 kW dedicated circuit gives about 180 km, and an 11 kW wallbox fills the car in one night.
What if the garage has no electricity?
Then you need a circuit from an existing meter or a new grid connection, with the owner's consent. The cable route and the price come from an assessment by a company that installs chargers.
