The Serbian Association of Vehicle and Parts Importers (SAUVD) published first-registration data for the first nine months of 2026 on 8 October, based on Interior Ministry (MUP) records. From January to September, 29.517 new passenger cars were registered, 23,15 % more than a year earlier. Fully electric cars numbered 1.166, against 298 in the same period of 2025, an increase of 291,28 %. Their share of new passenger cars is 3,95 %.

In the first half of the year, 535 new electric cars were registered, 2,74 % of the market. This means about 630 arrived from July to September alone (calculated from SAUVD data), more than in the first six months.

Petrol cars are still the most bought, at 40,41 %, followed closely by petrol-electric hybrids at 38,37 %, up 60,48 %. All hybrids together make up 44,52 % of the market, and diesel has fallen to 9,30 %. Among light commercial vehicles, 461 are electric, or 11,73 %.

Among passenger car brands, Škoda is first (5.819), Toyota second (3.905) and BYD third with 1.499 vehicles, a figure that includes both electric and plug-in hybrid models. SAUVD does not publish registrations by model.

What it means

Electric cars are still rare among new cars, but their share has clearly grown in three months. The 5.000 € subsidy for a new electric car can be claimed until 1 December or while the budget lasts — subsidies 2026.
